A traditional wooden five-storied pagoda was structurally designed on the basis of the performance design concept against wind, earthquake and snow loads. The present paper describes the design loads evaluation, the non-linear structural analyses, and the strengthening techniques. The static wind and the earthquake response analyses were successfully performed in consideration of the key mechanisms such as the semi-rigidity at the column-beam joints. The calculated story drifts showed that the strengthened structure would be safe against the design loads for the return period of 200 years.

This paper attempts to build the parameters of hysterisis models for resisting shear walls of timber structures. These parameters enables engineers to make models easily by summation of the parameters. In order to establish these parameters, this paper focuses on the following three subjects. First : Proposition of a hysterisis model fit for timber structures. Second : Proposition of parameters of the resisting shear walls, based on about 100 tests. Third : Prediction of shaking table tests from the models of summation of the walls. In the first part, the combination model of bilinear model and slip model is adopted for its simple mechanism. In the second part, the database serves for determining parameters of five different types of walls. In the third part, three models of one full-scale wooden house are proposed. The earthquake responses obtained by the models correspond to the shaking table tests, and this result confirms the accuracy of the parameters.

In recent years, the research on the damage and response displacement performance of the building of a large earthquake, for example, the Hyogoken Nanbu earthquake, are widely proposed. On the other hand, a lot of researches on the damage evaluation of the high-rise building after the earthquake are reported. However, report of research of wooden houses are few, hoped for. To the radical of this background, this research proposes the index of the relevance of finish material damage and structure damage by the static-shear-loading test of wooden house bearing walls with finish material, and reports the verification result of the validity of the index by full-scales wooden house vibration tests.
