This study manifested the characteristics of mountain trails and effect to the natural experience, taking Mt. Inari in Kyoto, in which Japanese traditional belief to the nature still exists, as a case study. Analysis was practiced in terms of locations of trails and of objects for interest on trails. As a result, the former was exemplified to bring realization of rich topography with introduction of diverse terrains, or to emphasize the action of “climbing”, applying particularity of mountain peak. On the other hand, the latter was exemplified to enrich natural experience with adopted nature as interest, or to enrich trailing experience with successive appearance of interest. Those findings were summarized as hints for design of mountain trails.

安藤広重作「東海道五十三次」8種計418枚の絵画を分析し, 安藤広重の描く道路植栽の特徴を明らかにした。その結果, 街路樹型の植栽は無く, それに近い等間隔の列植植栽形式も少ないことがわかった。列植よりも, 単木植栽が多く, しかもそれらは渡し場, 橋塚, 高札, 茶屋など重要な道路施設とセットになっていて, それらの存在を植栽が強調していること。また, それらの単木, 従って大事な場所や施設の周辺には, ほかの植栽が多いか少なく, その結果, それら重要な地物がより強調されていること。さらに, それらの単木は樹姿良くその結果単木は単に要所を強調しているだけでなく, 印象深い風景に仕立て上げられていることがわかった。
