過去数回の大地震を経験してきた日本の首都東京は、近年の人口過密やオープンスペースの不足から、災害に弱い都市として潜在的な危険を持ち合わせている。都民の生活と財産を守り、都市機能を維持して行く使命を持つ都は、本庁舎の移転に合わせて、防災活動の指令塔としての「防災センター」を設置し、さらにセンター機能を支援するために防災情報システムを開発した。このシステムの一部である地図情報システムにARC/INFOが採用され、災害時の応急対策の立案支援を行っている。この報告では、災害に関する情報の地図の展開を交えて、開発された地図情報システムの概要を紹介する。Tokyo, the capital of Japan, has been experienced several serious earthquakes in the past. With the mission of protecting the lives and assets of the people, and the smooth operation of the city; "Disaster Prevention Center" was established. This function as a control tower for disaster prevention activities and is supported by a specially designed Disaster information System. Map Information System, which is a part of the system, adopts ARC/INFO to support the dicision-making process for emergency procedures against disasters. This report illustrates the general idea of the newly-developed Map information System and how it develops disaster related information into maps.
