This paper deals mainly with foods which can also be considered as health foods for curing the common cold. In this paper, pickled ume (Prunus mume), garlic (Allium sativum), Japanese leek (Allium fistulosus), Kumquat (Fortunella spp.), Mandarin (Citrus unshiu etc.), bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), black soybean (Glycine max), burdock (Arctium lappa), perilla (Perilla frutescens), ginger (Zingiber officinale), Chinese radish (Raphanus sativus), egg, tea (Camellia sinensis), pear (Pyrus pyrifolia), lotus root (Nelumbo nucifera), aloe (Aloe arborescens, A. vera), ginkgo nut (Ginkgo biloba), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), udo (Aralia cordata), mint (Mentha spp.), loquat (Eriobotrya japonica), Japanese butterbur (Petasites japonicus), mugwort (Artemisia princeps), pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.), Chinese quince (Chaenomeles sinensis), Chinese matrimony vine (Lycium barbarum), kudzu vine (Pueraria lobata), gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides), pomegranate (Punica granatum), taros (Colocasia esculenta), Japanese plum (Prunus salicina), dropwort (Oenanthe javanica) are described. Among these foods, ume, ginger, radish, mandarin and leek are popular and important, considered effective for curing common colds. In this paper how to use these foods for curing common colds is described.
