THIS PAPER AIMS TO REVEAL HOW THE CITY OF EDO IS SPATIALLY STRUCTURED, IN HER DAYS OF FOUNDATION, BY THE META-PHISICAL COSMOLOGY OF THOSE DAYS, AND BY WHICH HOW THE REALISTIC SPATIAL STRUCTURE AND SOCIAL SYSTEM IS INFLUENCED UPAN. BASED ON THE ORIGINALLY-MADE DOT-MAPS OF ELEMENTS OF THE META-PHISICAL COSMOLOGY, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF FINDINGS FROM EXISTING EDONOLOGY STUDIES, GEOGRAPHICALLY CONPARATIVE ANALYSIS WAS CONDUCTED AND THE FINDINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS. 1)DOMINANT META-PHISICAL AXIS HAS EXISTED IN THE CITY, ON WHICH LIES THREE SIGNIFICANT ELEMENTS OF TOKUGAWA SHOGUNATE. THE ARC OF THE AXIS IS 72 DEGREE IN ANTI-CLOCKWISE FROM GEOGRAPHICAL ONE. 2)THE CITY HAS BEEN CIRCULALY SURROUNDED BY THE BELT OF META-PHISICAL ELEMENTS WHICH INTENDED TO GUARD THE CITY FROM OUTER EVILS' INVATION AND CAUSED TO RESTRICT THE CITY'S SPRAWL. ETC.

This paper aims to clarify spatial characteristics of nationwide distribution and citywide location of 'Yuri' (gay quarters) in Yedo era. Based on historical documents and maps of towns, the analysis was conducted. Findings are as follows, 1. The number of 'Yuri' increased in 4times during Yedo era. 2. The citywide location and the spatial characteristics of 'Yuri' in castle towns can be classified in 7 patterns, and each type of 'Yuri' depended on relations between the Tokugawa shogunate and the lord of the castle. 3. All the allocation of 'Yuri' fulfilled the function of psychological gates.
