This paper propose a new type logic-per-track device (LPTD) and the basic architecture of a data base system (DBS) using it. The proposed LPTD is not completely logic-per-track, but has a seek mechanism. And it is logic-per-track within the cylinder to which the seek mechanism position read/write heads. We refer to this semi-LPTD as Associative File Memory (AFM). AFM and proposed DBS have the following characteristics: (1) AFM is less costly as compared with LPTD and executes associatively any instruction in one disk revo1ution. (2) In the DBS, many AFM instructions can be executed in parallel. (3) The storage structure on AFM can be very close to the data structure, for example, relational or network data structure.
