In this text, first of all, an economic developmental process in the East Asian countries is clarified. Next, it considers why a violent currency crisis was generated in the latter half of the 1990's in Thailand, South Korea, and other East Asian countries. Finally, the historical meaning of the Asian currency crisis is clarified while examining various opinions concerning the crisis. The theory that valued vulnerability in the institutions of the East Asian countries is criticized ; and, the perspective that the financial globalization that progressed rapidly with financial deregulation was a factor of the crisis after the 90's is evaluated. However, it is discussed that it would have been necessary to value the decrease in global competitiveness in nations such as Thailand in the latter half of the 1990's and the burst of the economic bubble as factors to cause the rapid outflow of money.
