Smooth pursuit eye movement system shows different control characteristics according to the types of target motion. Frequency characteristics were measured using combinations of various two frequency sinusoidal waves. The gain reduction and the phase lead were observed for lower frequency components. Results suggest taht the smooth pursuit system adaptively changes its characteristics-presumably the stiffness of extraocular muscles-to effectively responds to a target motion.
