In year 2014, the application of identification over obstacles by applying terahertz technique was explored. None of the existing identification techniques have quite met the needs of acquiring coded information behind the package material or obstacles as well as keeping low cost and good countability. Terahertz (THz) radiation can penetrate many commonly used packaging materials, making it suitable for nondestructive and noninvasive inspection and imaging. Such identification tag operating at THz-wave region is expected to be a solution to practical industrial need.I started this research work by the development of a novel design of surface metal antenna worked in THz-wave region, continued from my last year’s study. Followed by that, I came to an idea of developing a printable THz-barcode system with a dielectric coating layer on the back-side to the common barcode system to construct an etalon cavity, which should operate behind a layer of packaging. This allows us to read the image of a barcode using THz radiation even when the dimensions of the low-frequency beam are larger than the width of the bar. Due to the cheap price of the ink applied for printing barcode patterns, low-cost of such system is also achieved. By demonstrating the superior performance of my design, I have published a paper on international journal and presented it in an international conference held in USA.
