This paper presents a solution for self-loosening mechanism of bolt-nut joints under transverse vibration. At the first stage of relative transverse displacement between fastened plates, a bolt-thread inclines in a mating nut-thread with slip on the screw-surface of the nut-thread, producing elastic torsion of the bolt-shank. At the next stage of the transverse displacement, the washer face of the nut slips on the surface of the vibrating plate, accompanying loosening rotation of the nut caused by spring back of the elastic torsion of the bolt-shank. Repetition of these behaviours in each cycle of the vibration, advances the self-loosening of the bolt-nut joint. Above mentioned self-loosening mechanism is analyzed theoretically, considering loci of slip on the screw surface and washer face. The theory is compared with the experiment, resulting that they show fairly good agreement, except small difference which is seemed to be caused by the fluctuation of the frictional coefficients on the screw surface and the washer face.

Self-loosening of threaded fasteners under transverse vibration has been investigated by G. H. Junker, and the testing of locking performance by this method is being of the world's attention.The Junker's display of the locking performance is based on the relation between the input energy obtained as the product of external force by vibrating displacement and the residual fastening force.In this paper, another style of display, that is, relation between the loss of the fastening force per vibrating cycle in the specified fastening force and the full amplitude of vibrating displacement, is proposed.By this method, effects of different pitches, lubricants, running speeds, tolerance classes and fastening forces are examined, and the locking performances of a cylindrical washer, a nylon-ring insert locknut, locking by a pair of regular nuts, a spring washer, a conical spring washer and anaerobic locking compound are evaluated.

Reductions of meshing and bearing clearances are requisite in design and production of small backlash planetary gears. In this case, however, there is a risk of losing proper load distribution to each planet gears, which has risk of occurrence of non-working flank load. The state of non-working flank load increases unnecessarily working flank load and gives some undesirable influences on reliability of planetary gears. To solve this problem, this paper aims to analyze quantitatively about relations between the load distribution and position deviations of planet gears. These deviations are considered to be most influential to the problem in reality. About one type of the device with 4 planet gears, 20 kinds of combination pattern of the position deviations are selected out, and the influences of backlash, reduction ratio and gear module to the above relations are clarified. Consequently, allowable position deviations to avoid the state of non-working flank load are found out for various conditions and useful materials for design are obtained.
