In this paper, a novel single-phase sinusoidal PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) is proposed. The inverter has an additional arm to the normal single-phase bridge circuit. The two auxiliary self-turn-off devices of the branch avail to adopt the composite PWM control, which contributes to reduce the ripple in the ac output current. Also, the inverter has a LC series resonance circuit tuned to twice the system frequency f, which is connected in parallel with the smoothing capacitor on the dc side. This absorbs the ac component included the dc pulsating current with 2f. Consequently, the capacity of the smoothing capacitor is drastically reduced. As an example of the application of this VSI, the utility connected residential photovoltaic power generation system is shown. In the system, the smooth dc current without pulsation is supplied from PV array, and the VSI provides a sinusoidal ac current for domestic lords and the utility line.

A suitable single-phase inverter for the utility interactive photovoltaic generation system is proposed. The single-phase PWM current source inverter has a novel circuit configuration which is added a auxiliary branch to the normal single-phase bridge circuit. In order to reduce the size and weight of the dc reactor, a double frequency parallel resonance circut (LC tank circuit) is inserted in the dc side of the inverter. In result, the double frequency voltage appeared in the dc side of the inverter due to the pulsation of the single-phase instantaneous power is perfectly suppressed by the tank circuit. The constant dc current without pulsation is supplied from PV array to the inverter. The inverter provide a sinusoidal ac current for domestic loads and the utility line with unity power factor.The virtual maximum power of the PV array can be obtained without any feedback control. In the system, the PV array can play an important role as a current-limitter by its V-I characteristics. Computed waveformes by simulation are shown. The excellent inverter equipment will be realized with smaller size and lighter weight than a conventional inverter.

A suitable structure for small-capacity generator must be simple, robust, highly reliable and maintenance-free.The authors present an original brushless cylindrical-rotor type 4-pole three-phase synchronous generator without excitor. The stator is provided with a 4-pole three-phase main winding and a 2-pole single-phase exciting winding, and rotor field coils are connected with diodes, respectively, so as to make the same pole magnetic field as the stator main winding. The each field coil is consisted of a half-wave rectification circuit. The rotor field excitation is controlled proportionally by the stator dc exciting current.By the scheme that the stator main winding is connected to leading capacitors at the terminals for shunt excitation, and connected to the full-wave rectifier at the neutral point and the rectified current supplied to the stator exciting winding for series excitation, a brushless self-excited three-phase synchronous generator has been achieved.In this paper the circuit configuration of the generator and the experimental results using a 2kVA prototype machine are shown.
