Among linear motor-driven railways, on-board primary linear induction motor-driven railways (steel wheel supported system and levitated system by conducting magnets) have been putting to practical use. This paper refers to electric field strength and magnetic field strength radiated about by these systems. The results are as follows:(1) Directly reached radio noise radiated by the linear motor car has the 1_??_2 MHz frequency region at most.(2) Radio noise by the linear motor car is similar to that by the VVVF inverter controlled car.(3) Magnetic field strength inside the linear motor car is the largest upon the reactor, but is not larger than the ordinary car.(4) In the inspection pit, just under the linear motor magnetic field strength is larger, but decreases to safety level at some distances due to the large attennuation. With the above-mentioned founding, the conclusion are as follows.(i) Peak envelope detection is the refining method in care of the measurement of electric field strength radiated by electric railways.(ii) It is necessary to establish the united standards on the magnetic field strength inside the electric railway cars.(iii) The characteristics of electromagnetic field are of little difference between the linear motor cars and the ordinary motor cars.

The train service in Japan looses rapidity, comfort and robustness against delays in morning peak hours especially, and it has been a serious social problem. On the other hand, the cost to purchase land for a new track is very high. An efficient train operation is proposed in this paper. The proposed train operation has substantially high rapidity and train density identical to a quadruple-track line, with a novel train scheduling based on full usage of a triple-track line. The significance of the proposed train operation on a triple-track line has been verified based on the calculations of waiting time and boarding time of passengers. Consequently train operators can keep the rapidity, moreover, raise track capacity by operating express and local trains like knitting on triple-track lines.

The authors had proposed the revolving permanent magnet type magnetic wheel called the “magnet wheel”, which have both functions of induction repulsive type magnetic levitation and thrust. In this paper, the relation between magnetic poles and lift force or thrust characteristics is examined to grasp the performance. Five types of magnet wheels are discussed in the experimental study and four more types are used in the theoretical study with the three-dimensional numerical analysis. The following parameters are considered, they are magnetomotive force (mmf) of permanent magnet, thickness of magnet in magnetizing direction and the total volume of magnets, fundamental factor and distortion factor of the space mmf distribution of poles, pole pitch, diameter of magnet wheel, mechanical clearance, thickness and resistivity of conducting plate, etc. The result cleared the following. 1. The lift force per magnet volume is nearly proportional to the fundamental factor of space mmf distribution of pole. The low degree space harmonic mmf is effective to increase lift force. 2. The driving power per lift force is almost independent of configuration of the primary member including pole arrangement and position against the secondary conducting plate respectively, and only depends on the resistance of conducting plate. 3. In both the “partial overlap type” and “tilt type” magnet wheels, many number of poles with the sufficiently large pole pitch is useful. In the tilt type the use with a small tilt angle is desirable.

We have already announced the design method of the passive attenuator to prevent a high voltage which induced at a crane hook of a large crane used near a medium wave radio broadcasting antenna. But it is very difficult fundamentally to microminiaturize this passive attenuator.In this time, we developed an active attenuator that possible to miniaturize where a negative resistor or a fourterminal amplifier is included. From the result analyzing this crane equipped with an active attenuator theoretically, we show the design method of the active attenuator. In this paper, first the equivalent circuit of the crane equipped with the active attenuator as a receiving antenna is induced. And we show that the attenuated characteristics of the active attenuator by the model experiment accords with the theoretical attenuated characteristics which employ an equivalent circuit under the same condition.

Ventilated type traction motors are widely used for railway vehicles. However, they require overhauls to clean up inside them. Besides, they are a major noise source in railway vehicles. To solve these problems, we propose a totally-enclosed type traction motor using permanent magnet synchronous motor, that have the same weight power ratio as that of conventional ventilated type traction motor. In this paper, we report the test results of the proposed motor. The test results demonstrates that the temperature rise values are within its limit and the noise level is decreased by 10 dB compared to conventional motor.

The 76GHz millimeter wave radar has been developed for automotive application such as ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and CWS (Collision Warning System). The radar is FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) monopulse type. The radar transmits 2 frequencies in time-duplex manner, and measures distance and relative speed of targets. The monopulse feature detects the azimuth angle of targets without a scanning mechanism. Conventionally a radar unit is aimed mechanically, although self-aiming capability, to detect and correct the aiming angle error automatically, has been required. The new algorithm, which estimates the aiming angle error and vehicle speed sensor error simultaneously, has been proposed and tested. The algorithm is based on the relationship of relative speed and azimuth angle of stationary objects, and the least squares method is used for calculation. The algorithm is applied to measured data of the millimeter wave radar, resulting in aiming angle estimation error of less than 0.6 degree.

An algorithm optimizing train running profile with Bellman's Dynamic Programming (DP) is investigated in this paper. Optimal running trajectory of a train which minimizes amount of total energy consumption has been produced under fixed origin and destination, stipulated running time and various track profile. Many previous works on this area adopt the numerical techniques of calculus of variations, Pontryagin's maximum principle, and so on. But these methods often meet some difficulties accounting for complicated actual train running preconditions, e.g. complicated functions which describe electrical motive/brake torque, local constraints of the state variable as speed limitations, non-linear running resistance and variable grade profiles. Basic numerical DP algorithm can cope with such comlicated conditions and give the globally optimal solution. But this method consumes too large computation time for practical uses. We have made the improvements for shorter calculation time of whole optimization process and reducing the numerical error. The confined state space and irregular lattice play most important role for them. Dynamic meshing and effective utilization of system memory also realize shorter computation time. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using various complicated running conditions.

A simplified vector control is proposed as a driving method of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for electrical household appliances. Control structure is simplified by eliminating the speed regulator and the current regulator from the conventional vector controller. Output voltage references are determined by feedforward-like calculation using motor parameters, rotation speed command, and current references. In the static characteristic, the proposed vector control method is almost equal to the conventional one, because the voltage references are calculated in the vector space. A practical estimate equation of rotor position is proposed, and the phase locked loop control approach is employed to drive PMSM without position and speed sensors. Design method of two control gains is given. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control is verified by simulation and experiments.

In most variable-speed drives of PMSM, some type of shaft sensor such as an optical encoder or resolver is connected to the rotor shaft. However, such sensor presents several disadvantages such as drive cost, machine size, reliability and noise immunity. Therefore, the sensorless control of PMSM is desired and various sensorless control strategies have been investigated. This paper presents a novel sensorless control strategy for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). A new model of IPMSM using an extended electromotive force (EMF) in the rotating reference frame is utilized in order to estimate both of position and speed. The extended EMF is estimated by the least-order observer, and the estimation position error is directly obtained. The proposed scheme corrects the estimated position and speed so that the estimation position error becomes to be zero. The proposed system is very simple and the design of the controller is easy. Several drive tests are carried out and the experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed sensorless control system.

The improvement of adhesion characteristics is important in electric motor coach. We have already proposed the anti-slip/skid re-adhesion control system based on disturbance observer and sensor-less vector control. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been confirmed by the experiment and the numerical simulation using the tested bogie system of electric motor coach.Then, we apply the proposed method to the actual electric multiple units, which is Series 205-5000. In the experimental results of Series 205-5000, this paper discusses that the proposed anti-slip/skid re-adhesion control system has the desired driving wheel torque response. Moreover, this paper proposes the evaluation method of re-adhesion control test results.

This paper presents a new unified analysis of estimate errors by model-matching phase-estimation methods such as rotor-flux state-observers, back EMF state-observers, and back EMF disturbance-observers, for sensorless drive of permanent-magnet synchronous motors. Analytical solutions about estimate errors, whose validity is confirmed by numerical experiments, are rich in universality and applicability. As an example of universality and applicability, a new trajectory-oriented vector control method is proposed, which can realize directly quasi-optimal strategy minimizing total losses with no additional computational loads by simply orienting one of vector-control coordinates to the associated quasi-optimal trajectory. The coordinate orientation rule, which is analytically derived, is surprisingly simple. Consequently the trajectory-oriented vector control method can be applied to a number of conventional vector control systems using one of the model-matching phase-estimation methods.

This paper proposes a new design method of nanoscale servo control for a Galvano scanner by using FFSC (frequency-shaped final-state control) method. In the Galvano scanner, it is important to reduce the residual vibration after positioning; further, this scanner must be robust to the variation of the resonance modes of the plant. In this paper, a feedforward input is designed by using FFSC by considering not only nominal performance but also robust performance. Simulations and experimental results are shown to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The authors have proposed that ΔΣ modulator is effectively applied to an inverter system with PWM pattern generating scheme. The major features of ΔΣAE modulator is the inherent nature of spread spectrum and simple configuration. On the other hand, ΔΣ modulator can be considered as a sort of error amplifier. Using proposed ΔΣ modulator, an automatic amplitude control function will be realized. In this paper, an automatic amplitude control performance of ΔΣ modulated voltage source inverter is described. The results of computer simulation and FFT analysis indicate that output influence due to DC source variation are effectively reduced by ΔΣ modulator. Furthermore, a possibility of system design simplification is described in this paper.

This paper describes the inverter drive characteristics of a 2.4 MW permanent magnet generator (PMG) for a diesel electric propulsion system. We demonstrated the relations between the PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) pulse patterns and temperature rise in a permanent magnet in a PMG. Additionally, we demonstrated that inverter failure has a significant impact on the current and torque in a PMG.

A new type of magnetic levitation system called the Inductrack, has been proposed by R F. Post. This system is composed of a special arrangement of permanent magnets on board which is called the Halbach array, and a close-packed array of shorted coils in the longitudinal direction on the ground. This composition can obtain a large magnetic force, a very low take-off speed and a high lift-to-drag ratio. This paper describes numerical simulations of the Inductrack magnetic levitation by the Fourier series analysis which is utilized in the analysis of superconducting magnetic levitation. By using numerical examples considering a full-scale car model, we reveal the features of the Inductrack system in comparison with the superconducting magnetic levitation.

The voltage modulation factor of the magnetic flux control PWM method is discussed. The fundamental component of the inverter output voltage is proportional to the radius of the flux locus. The modulation factor is derived by the theoretical study on the length of the flux locus produced from inverter output voltage.As a result, the modulation factor of the magnetic flux control PWM method is calculated by the portion of zero vectors in the PWM pattern. The modulation factor is proportional to the output voltage from zero to 12/π2. By using proposed modulation factor, the magnetic flux control PWM method can control output voltage from zero to over-modulation.Simulation results and experimental results are also shown.
