Palimpsestとは、過去に書かれた文字を消すことで再利用された羊皮紙の写本のことである。近年、この消された過去の文章の研究と解析が行われており、時折、貴重な文献が発見されている。本発表では、ヴァチカン教皇庁図書館に所蔵された200冊以上のPalimpsest写本の解析を目的として開発を進めている、Palimpsest解析システムの内容について紹介する。当システムは、デジタル技術に不慣れな研究者でも容易に扱うことができるという点に主眼を据えており、紫外線と通常光源の2光源自動切換え機能を有するスキャナと、輝度のヒストグラムによる階層分離機能を有した画像処理ソフトウェアとで構成されている。Palimpsest is a piece of parchment reused by erasing the characters written in the past. In recent years, research and analysis of erased text have been performed and extremely important references were discovered occasionally. This presentation will provide an introduction to the Palimpsest analysis system that we are developing specifically for the analysis of the 200 or more Palimpsest manuscripts held by the Vatican Library. This system is developed so that even a researcher unfamiliar with digital technology can use this system easily. It consists of a scanner with two light sources (white rays and ultraviolet rays) that can automatically change and image-processing software with a layer separation function using a histogram of luminosity.
