This study reports on the morphological variations in Nothoserphus afissae (Watanabe, 1954), which are important for species identification. Neglecting these characteristics could lead to misidentification and an underestimation of species diversity among similar species. In this paper, I provide a redescription and updated diagnosis of N. afissae.

We newly record Foenatopus cinctus (Matsumura, 1912) from Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Yaku Island, and Iriomote Island, Japan. The variation on this species is reported by Hong et al. (2011) as vein 2-cu1 is 0.5–1.2 times as long as vein cu-a. However, some specimens we examined have vein 2-cu1 less than 0.5 times as long as vein cu-a or almost disappeared. We identified them as F. cinctus based on other characters.
