On July 11th, 1991, from the summit of Mt. Mauna Kea, NHK, using three HDTV cameras, successfully filmed one of the longest total solar eclipses of this century. This was the first attempt in the world to film a total solar eclipse using HDTV cameras. This of course involved difficulties in preparing the equipment and materials and in filming the object.

ハイビジョン放送ならではの迫力ある映像と音声で大自然の驚異や大景観を画面から体感してもらう生中継シリーズ。昨年5月22日、23日の2日間、世界最大の峡谷・グランドキャニオンから、5月30日は300mを越える巨岩が立ち並ぶモニュメントバレーから生中継を実施した。富士山が17個も入ってしまう広大なエリアのグランドキャニオンからの中継は峡谷の崖上にある展望地「デザートビュー」をメインポジションとし出先現場を3ヵ所設け生中継を実施した。
