We propose an autostereoscopic display allowing two observers with adaptive fractional time-division multiplexing parallax barrier. Fractional time-division suppresses perceived flickers when the order of slit position is properly set. To make sure that both of the observers are located in the proper viewing zones to enable stereoscopy simultaneously, the number of time-division multiplexing is switched in accordance with the distance between them. The viewing zone without crosstalk for the second viewer is evaluated theoretically.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is main treatment for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, restenosis caused by PCI-induced injury influences the outcome of patients. Linagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, has been reported to ameliorate intimal hyperplasia post vascular injury. The underlying mechanisms by which linagliptin protects against balloon injury are unclear and require to be explored. Herein, Wistar rats with carotid artery balloon injury were given 1, 2 or 3 mg/kg/day linagliprin for 6 weeks. We found that linagliptin attenuated vascular injury-mediated neointima formation in rats without affecting body weight and blood glucose levels. ELISA results indicated that linagliptin significantly reduced overproduction of cytokines including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and IL-6 post balloon injury. By detecting the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), we found that linagliptin prevented balloon injury-induced oxidative stress. Additionally, linagliptin decreased the level of Kelch ECH-associating protein 1 (KEAP1) compared with injury group. Results of Western blots and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) demonstrated that linagliptin augmented nuclear accumulation of nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and its binding ability to target genes in rats with balloon injury. Moreover, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NAD(P)H quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), two downstream targets of NRF2, were further up-regulated after linagliptin treatment compared with injury group. In conclusion, our data suggest that linagliptin protects carotid artery from balloon injury-induced neointima formation and activates the NRF2 antioxidant pathway.

Long-term seed dormancy of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis limits its large-scale artificial cultivation. It is crucial to understand the regulatory genes involving in dormancy release for artificial cultivation in this species. In this study, seed dormancy of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis was effectively released by warm stratification (20°C) for 90 days. The freshly harvested seeds (dormant) and stratified seeds (non-dormant) were used to sequence, and approximately 147 million clean reads and 28,083 annotated unigenes were detected. In which, a total of 10,937 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between dormant and non-dormant seeds. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) classification revealed that the majority unigenes involved in signaling transduction and carbohydrate metabolism. Of them, the signaling transduction-related DEGs were mainly hormones-, reactive oxygen species (ROS)-, and transcription factor (TF)-related genes. The largest number of signaling transduction-related DEGs were auxin-responsive genes (SAUR, AUX/IAA, and ARF) and AP2-like ethylene-responsive transcription factor (ERF/AP2). Moreover, at least 29 DEGs such as α-amylase (AMY), β-glucosidase (Bglb/Bglu/Bglx), and endoglucanase (Glu) were identified involving in carbohydrate metabolism. These identified genes provide a valuable resource to investigate the molecular basis of dormancy release in Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis.

We present a liver surgery simulator using full-HD autostereoscopic displays. We have developed two kinds of autostereoscopic displays to keep on showing a full-HD 3D image to a viewer who moves freely in front of the display. One is a 3D display based on time-division multiplexing directional backlight and the other is a 3D display based on time-division multiplexing parallax barrier. We have applied the developed simulator using the 3D displays with different specifications to the education of medical students. The result of the questionnaires suggests that 3D visualization is effective and that reduction of crosstalk plays an important role to promote medical use of 3D displays.
