[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ten weeks of aquatic therapy exercise would increase low back muscle strength and reduce low back pain in 19 elderly subjects. [Subjects] Nineteen low back disorder patients were randomly assigned to one of two groups: an aquatic therapy exercise group (n=9), and a control group (n=10). [Methods] The aquatic therapy group participated five times a week for ten weeks in an aquatic exercise designed to strengthen the low back muscles. Data collection was done using a Cybex-770 system. [Results] The results show that the aquatic exercise significantly reduced visual analog scale pain by 52.1%. Significant improvements in low back muscle strength were found in the aquatic therapy group on peak torque of flexor in 180/sec by 48.31% and on peak torque of extensor in 180/sec by 152.85% . [Conclusion] Based on the results, we conclude that the ten weeks of aquatic therapy exercise can enhance low back muscle strength and reduce low back pain in elderly women.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to determine how a compound exercise program affected the elasticity of the blood vessels of middle aged obese women. [Methods] The research subjects were 40-50 year old women who had excess body fat (30%). The experimental group performed warm-up and cool-down: walking at 3.5-4.0 km/h for 5 minutes and exercised using nine kinds of machinery. A analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used for statistical analysis. [Results] In the experimental group, LH PWV, RH PWV, HF PWV, RF PWV significantly increased compared to the control. [Conclusion] The compound exercise program designed for middle aged obese women had affected the elasticity of the blood vessels.

[Purpose] In order to succeed and achieve in sports, athletes need to enhance their specific athletic performance in competitions. Therefore, athletes seek to find the best training method for improvement. Stretch is a major part of athletic training preparation during in and off season. However, performing static stretch during warm-up session is controversial. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different stretches prior to a 40 m sprint and the Margaria-Kalamen Power Test on lower extremity power. [Subjects] Twenty-eight high school sprinters participated in this study. [Methods] They performed three 40 m sprints and the Margaria-Kalamen Power Test following the 12 weeks of different stretches. Repeated measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. [Results] The results show that after 12 weeks of intervention, 40 m sprint times and the Margaria-Kalamen Power test performance were significantly enhanced in dynamic stretch compared to static stretch. [Conclusion] We concluded that 12 weeks of dynamic stretch improved 40 m sprint times and leg power compared to static and mixed types of stretch programs. It should be noted that a dynamic stretch program enhanced lower extremity power in high school sprinters.
