Objective To describe the clinical research support systems in Japanese board certification programs of internal medicine and to assess the relationship between these support systems and the scholarly activities of residents. Methods In 2018, a 26-item web questionnaire was mailed to 542 points of contact of hospitals listed as certified residency programs of internal medicine in order to obtain information about the presence of a research support system and scholarly activity from 2016. We used hospital characteristic data from the Japanese Diagnostic Procedure Combination database, a national inpatient database, and the annual report of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine. Results A total of 228 hospitals (42%) responded to the survey. There were regular research lectures in 129 hospitals (57%), protected time (time to perform research during working hours) in 53 hospitals (23%), research consultations in 175 hospitals (77%), regular journal clubs in 213 hospitals (77%), regular research conferences in 151 hospitals (66%), data warehouses in 139 hospitals (61%), and financial research support from the hospital budget in 140 hospitals (61%). A multivariate analysis showed that none of the research support systems were related to the number of conference presentations. In contrast, protected time (odds ratio [OR] 3.66, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.43-9.39) and regular research conferences (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.14-4.23) were related to the presence of clinical research presentations in scientific conferences hosted by residents. Conclusion Protected time and regular research conferences were related to the scholarly activity of residents in Japanese teaching hospitals.

Purpose: To investigate whether deep cervical lymph node (DCLN) ligation alters intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tracer dynamics and outflow using a rat model with intrathecal dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI.Methods: Six bilateral DCLN-ligated and six sham-operated rats were subjected to DCE MRI with Gd-BTDO3A, and dynamic T1-weighted images were acquired. ROIs were collected from the CSF at the C1 level (CSF_C1), CSF between the olfactory bulbs (CSF_OB), CSF at the pituitary recess (CSF_PitR), and CSF at the pineal recess (CSF_PinR), upper nasal turbinate (UNT), olfactory bulbs, cerebrum, and the jugular region. Time-intensity curves were evaluated, and the maximum slope, peak timing, peak signal ratio, and elimination half-life for the four CSF ROIs and UNT were calculated and compared. Results: Delayed tracer arrival in the rostral CSF space and the nasal cavity with tracer retention in the ventral CSF space were observed in the ligation group. The maximum slopes were smaller in the ligation group at UNT (sham: 0.075 ± 0.0061, ligation: 0.044 ± 0.0086/min, P = 0.011). A significant difference was not detected in peak timings. The peak signal ratio values were lower in the ligation group at UNT (sham: 2.12 ± 0.19, ligation: 1.72 ± 0.11, P = 0.011). The elimination half-life was delayed in the ligation group at CSF_C1 (sham: 30.5 ± 2.70, ligation: 44.4 ± 12.6 min, P = 0.043), CSF_OB (sham: 30.2 ± 2.67, ligation: 44.8 ± 7.47 min, P = 0.021), and CSF_PitR (sham: 30.2 ± 2.49, ligation: 41.3 ± 7.57 min, P = 0.021).Conclusion: The DCLN ligation in rats blocked CSF outflow into the nasal cavity and caused CSF retention.

In this study, the ammonia gas adsorptivity was evaluated by carbide of coffee beans residue. Ammonia gas was used as a test gas. When organic compounds included some nitrogen atoms are rotted, ammonia gas breaks out. It has irritating smell. And, it shows corrosion effect for metal plating, copper and aluminum. 10 to 1000ppm ammonia gas concentrations were prepared in globe bags with the carbide samples. After 15min, 1h and 24h gas concentration in each glove bags were measured by gas detector tubes. The carbide samples of the coffee bean residue showed excellent ammonia gas adsorptivity.
