Three cats were diagnosed as having food hypersensitivity by food elimination and oral food provocation tests. Twelve allergenic food ingredients were identified by oral food provocation test in the 3 cats. Of the 12 food ingredients, 9 offending food antigens were shown to be positive on lymphocyte stimulation test; however, none of them was positive on antigen-specific IgE testing and only four food antigens were positive on intradermal testing. The stimulation indices in the lymphocyte stimulation tests for the 9 food ingredients were found to be decreased after the cats were fed elimination diets. The present study demonstrates that the lymphocyte stimulation test reflects an immunologic reaction involved in food hypersensitivity and can help identify allergenic food ingredients in feline food hypersensitivity.

We assessed prokinetic action of gastroprokinetic agent, mosapride in dogs. Open-label cross-over study. Six healthy beagles were administered single oral mosapride at doses of 0.5, 0.75, 1, and 2 mg/kg 30 min prior to feeding, followed by 1-week interval. The motility index (MI) of gastric contraction was ultrasonographically evaluated by change rate of antral area and contraction number. Significant increases in MI were observed at doses of 0.75 mg/kg (mean ± SEM, 11.11 ± 0.19), 1 mg/kg (11.65 ± 0.34), and 2 mg/kg (12.04 ± 0.34), compared with that of the control (9.37 ± 0.51). Mosapride administration (2.0 mg/kg, BID) for 1 week had no adverse effects on blood tests or health of the animals. In conclusion, 0.75 to 2 mg/kg of mosapride produces gastric prokinetic actions without adverse effects.

Endoscopic polypectomy and argon plasma coagulation (APC) were performed in a refractory case of inflammatory colorectal polyps in a 7-year-old male Miniature Dachshund. Colonoscopic examination revealed a large sessile polyp and multiple diffuse small polyps, localized to the descending colon and rectum. The case showed a poor therapeutic response to prednisolone and cyclosporine. Under anesthesia, piecemeal resections were performed by polypectomy. APC was carried out to cauterize the polyp remnants. After treatment, reduction of the lesions and the improvement in clinical signs were observed, without recurrence of lesions for at least 10 months. Endoscopic treatment by polypectomy and APC is suggested to be a therapeutic option for refractory cases of inflammatory colorectal polyps in dogs.
