We herein report a case of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) with Pasteurella multilocida bacteremia in a 65-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis who was admitted to our hospital with anorexia and severe fatigue. Laboratory tests revealed pancytopenia and liver and kidney dysfunction. After admission, he developed impaired consciousness, mucosal hemorrhaging, and septic shock. SFTS virus was detected on polymerase chain reaction testing of blood and throat swabs, and Pasteurella multocida was detected on blood culture. Despite being treated with invasive mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, and antibiotics, the patient's condition progressively deteriorated, and he died four days after admission.

The behavior of virtual machine (VM) programs are monitored by virtual machine monitors (VMMs) for security purposes. System calls are frequently used as a monitoring point. To monitor the system calls, the VMM inserts a breakpoint, called a hook point, into the memory of the monitored VM. The hook points are determined based on experimental knowledge. However, reading the source codes of operating systems (OSes) requires specialized knowledge. In addition, the appropriate hook point differs among OSes and OS versions. Analyzing the source code in each OS update is impractical. Searching for the appropriate hook point for various OSes is also difficult. To address these problems, we propose a method for estimating the hook point using a memory analysis technique. The proposed method acquires the memory of the monitored VM and then searches for an appropriate instruction appropriate to hook. The search instructions depend on the processor architecture. In addition, we also proposed a method for searching the appropriate instruction using a single step execution. This version reduces the cost for searching the instructions and improve robustness for various Linux versions. The experimental results showed that the proposed method precisely estimates the hook point for various OS versions and OSes. In addition, the overhead of the proposed method is small, considering the boot time of the monitored VM.

For more than a century, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining has been the de facto standard for histological studies. Consequently, the legacy of histological knowledge is largely based on H&E staining. Due to the recent advent of multi-photon excitation microscopy, the observation of live tissue is increasingly being used in many research fields. Adoption of this technique has been further accelerated by the development of genetically encoded biosensors for ions and signaling molecules. However, H&E-based histology has not yet begun to fully utilize in vivo imaging due to the lack of proper morphological markers. Here, we report a genetically encoded fluorescent marker, NuCyM (Nucleus, Cytosol, and Membrane), which is designed to recapitulate H&E staining patterns in vivo. We generated a transgenic mouse line ubiquitously expressing NuCyM by using a ROSA26 bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clone. NuCyM evenly marked the plasma membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus in most tissues, yielding H&E staining-like images. In the NuCyM-expressing cells, cell division of a single cell was clearly observed as five basic phases during M phase by three-dimensional imaging. We next crossed NuCyM mice with transgenic mice expressing an ERK biosensor based on the principle of Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). Using NuCyM, ERK activity in each cell could be extracted from the FRET images. To further accelerate the image analysis, we employed machine learning-based segmentation methods, and thereby automatically quantitated ERK activity in each cell. In conclusion, NuCyM is a versatile cell morphological marker that enables us to grasp histological information as with H&E staining.Key words: in vivo imaging, histology, machine learning, molecular activity

The leaking of information has increased in recent years. To address this problem, we previously proposed a function for tracing the diffusion of classified information in a guest OS using a virtual machine monitor (VMM). This function makes it possible to grasp the location of classified information and detect information leakage without modifying the source codes of the guest OS. The diffusion of classified information is caused by a file operation, child process creation, and inter-process communication (IPC). In a previous study, we implemented the proposed function for a file operation and child process creation excluding IPC using a kernel-based virtual machine (KVM). In this paper, we describe the design of the proposed function for IPC on a KVM without modifying the guest OS. The proposed function traces the local and remote IPCs inside the guest OS from the outside so as to trace the information diffusion. Because IPC with an outside computer might cause information leakage, tracing the IPCs enables the detection of such a leakage. We also report the evaluation results including the traceability and performance of the proposed function.------------------------------This is a preprint of an article intended for publication Journal ofInformation Processing(JIP).
