The number of patients with methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder (MTX-LPD) is increasing. We describe a case of MTX-LPD of the stomach. After treatment with methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis, the patient developed left cervical lymphadenopathy and an ulcerative lesion in the stomach, which was presumed to be a mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. However, we suspected MTX-LPD, based on the clinical course and the positivity of in situ hybridization for the detection of the Epstein-Barr encoding region. After the cessation of MTX, the left cervical lymphadenopathy and the gastric lesion disappeared. This is first report of gastric MTX-LPD that was presumed to be MALT lymphoma.

Chronic enteropathy associated with solute carrier organic anion transporter family, member 2A1 (SLCO2A1) (CEAS) is a rare autosomal recessive hereditary disease characterized by chronic persistent anemia and hypoproteinemia. Its diagnosis typically requires a genetic analysis. The efficacy of immunohistochemical staining with SLCO2A1 polyclonal antibody as a pre-diagnostic tool for CEAS has been previously reported. We herein report a patient with CEAS in whom immunohistochemical staining confirmed SLCO2A1 protein expression. The immunopositive results may have been due to nonsense-mediated RNA decay. As immunohistochemical staining of SLCO2A1 protein may show immunopositive results, a genetic analysis should also be performed when CEAS is strongly clinically suspected.

Gastric cancers are sometimes diagnosed in patients who have successfully undergone Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication. We analyzed the clinicopathological features of gastric cancers detected after eradication to clarify their characteristics. We reviewed 31 patients with 34 cases of gastric cancer detected after successful H. pylori eradication. Clinicopathological characteristics analyzed included interval since eradication, interval since last endoscopy, tumor size, and depth of invasion. Patients were classified into two groups: early detection (<1 year since eradication) and delayed detection (≥1 year since eradication). The interval since last endoscopy was significantly shorter in the early detection group than in the delayed detection group. However, gastric cancers were significantly larger and more invasive in the early detection group than in the delayed detection group. In conclusion, diligent endoscopy is necessary during the first year after successful H. pylori eradication.
