Nominative-Genitive Conversion (NGC) is the grammatical process in which Noun Phrases marked with Nominative Case alternate with Genitive Case in a certain set of environments. This dissertation conducts a comparative study of NGC within the Altaic languages by looking at Japanese, Late Middle Korean, Modern Korean, Yanbian Korean, and Turkish. It aims to elucidate the similarities and differences regarding NGC: while many languages classified in Altaic languages such as Japanese, Late Middle Korean, Yanbian Korean, and Turkish allow it, not all languages allow it, including Modern Korean. The dissertation also discusses the absence and presence of Transitivity Restriction effect on NGC.
