Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder and a student with SM has a clinical phobia of speaking in class. This article covers identifying a SM student and different treatment methods. The article also provides teachers with information to support students with selective mutism by understanding SM studies triggers, communicating with parents, and therapists, and collaboratively developing strategies to encourage these students to have the courage to speak.
