Human beings lost the bicameral mind and acquired high-order consciousness. Doing research on the cerebral process of the bicameral mind, we forecast when and how robots will acquire high-order consciousness.

Strong ground motion accelerations during the mainshock and aftershocks of the 2005 Off Fukuoka Prefecture Earthquake observed at the two sites of Kyushu Sangyo University, Kounai and Munakata, with the digital data processing system are summarized. The digitized acceleration records reported here are released with an attached CD-ROM, which contains twenty four csv-type files of a three-component ground acceleration recorded at Kounai and/or Munakata during the sixteen seismic events.

As a manufacturing technical education practice, the authors have tried to introduce the problem-based learning into the graduation study course for the last two years. This paper presents the progress and results. In the graduation study course, the students were encouraged to find out a useful theme that can resolve a practical problem and perform the research independently. The teachers provided some advices to help the students if necessary, through periodic discussions in an equal position. The students applied LEGO mind storms as a tool producing a mechatronics device to verify the idea, and furthermore improving the properties of the device through repeated prototypes until the development purpose was achieved. The authors aim at promoting the creative abilities of the students through such the course. From the opinions of the students who passed the course, it can be concluded that the students not only actively struggled but also found satisfactions in the courses. The result also illustrates that LEGO mind storms is an effective tool for the problem-based learning type of manufacturing technical education.

As reported in the previous studies on the friction characteristics for the cam and slipper follower, the effect of the anti-wear and friction modifier additives, ZnDTP and MoDTC, additionally blended as a kind of the supplementary FM agent to semi-used engine oils on the reduction of friction was made obvious through the experiment to measure the friction with the cam follower test rig, where the influence of soot contamination in oil on the friction was examined by mixing the carbon black substituted for the engine soot. In the present study, the experiment to examine the friction and wear characteristics was conducted under the condition of comparatively long test duration with the same test rig and test oils. Key study results are summarized as follows. (1) Both the supplement of the FM agent to the semi-used engine oil and the increase of the supplement amount seemed to be effective to reduce the friction and wear. (2) When mixed with the carbon black more than 1.0 in mass percentage, however, the effect for the wear becomes remarkably low while the effect for the friction is scarcely kept obvious. (3) The coagulation of soot in oil should be controlled by the dispersant, and the allowable rate of soot content in oil is less than 1.0 in mass percentage.
