Four different compositions, i. e., a mixture of magnesium and palladium nitrate,magnesium nitrate, palladium nitrate both dissolved in nitric acid, and magnesium nitratedissolved in pure water, were examined at high (1000ppm) and low (100ppm) concentrationsfor the suitability as the matrix modifier for the determination of aluminum in Seta Riverwater. For the determination, the standard addition method was employed and the slopesof the graph calculated by the peak-height mode and the peak-area mode were comparedto those of pure water. The chemical interference, evaluated as the ratio of these slopes,was smaller in the peak-area mode except for the 100ppm palladium. The matrix modifiersolutions containing palladium have a tendency to shorten the life of a pyrocoatedgraphite cuvette. The peak profile from the matrix modifiers containing nitric acid wasoften distorted at the initial rising part. We concluded that magnesium nitrate dissolvedin pure water (1000ppm) was the most appropriate matrix modifier for the determination ofaluminum in Seta River water from among the tested modifier solutions, although thechemical interference was not completely removed.

Fractal dimension of snow crystal was measured. Program codes to estimate fractal dimension with digital image data of snow crystal by box-counting method and dimensional analysis were developed. Fractal dimensions for three typical kinds of snow crystals are determined.

滋賀県朽木の特産品であるさばなれずしの化学成分を調べた。さばなれずしには、カルシウムと鉄が豊富に含まれていた。一方、6ヶ月以上という長期間の発酵工程を経て製造されるにもかかわらず、脂質はほとんど酸化されておらず、脂肪酸組成にも変化がみられなかった。製品化されたさばなれずしを真空包装して冷凍庫(-20℃)で数ヶ月間保存した後も、脂肪酸組成に変化はほとんどみられず、脂質の酸化も非常にゆっくりにしか進まなかった。さばなれずしの官能評価の結果、なれずしを食べた経験の有無でさばなれずしのおいしさに対する評価に違いがあり、なれずしを食べたことのある人の方がおいしいと評価していた。

Within the frameword of complex network theory, we investigate the nature of the network composed of words which appear in textbooks of natural science used by students of junior high school. To compare the properties, the network composed of words in textbooks of social science is also analyzed. In both networks, the average distance between words is about 3.0, and the degree distribution follows a power law with slope about -2.0. We conclude that the two networks are small worlds with the scale free property. The words considered as hubs of the scale free networks correspond to kernel words which are used to explain higher level of concepts. The cluster coefficient of the networks and the degree dependence indicate that the correlation between words in the textbooks of natural science is stronger than that in the textbooks of social science.
