The classical insertion codes were discovered at the same time as the classical deletion codes. The quantum deletion code was presented at IEICE Communications Express last year, but quantum insertion codes were never constructed. In this article, we provide the first quantum insertion code. Its encoding is the same as the four-qubits deletion code, known as the theoretically shortest deletion code.

For years, researchers have been studying the relation between earthquakes and geomagnetic field signals using observation results. Following our continuous geomagnetic observation, this report describes geomagnetic signal changes generated by earthquakes and tsunami waves. Results show that detection of their occurrence using geomagnetic field measurement is effective for providing an early alarm system for disaster mitigation. Robust detection requires the robust estimation of a geomagnetic field using multiple observation results. This study introduced a deep neural network (DNN) to estimate geomagnetic fields. Results clarified that the proposed DNN model using data of multiple axes at multiple observation points as input data provides efficient solutions for geomagnetic estimation.

Wireless two-way interferometry (Wi-Wi) is the simplified version of “carrier phase based two-way satellite time and frequency transfer,” wherein a wireless communication technology is used instead of a satellite communication technology. We used the carrier phase of a 2.4 GHz ZigBee module to measure the variation of two rubidium clocks at remote sites. Since clocks in the ZigBee module are much less precise than rubidium clocks, the carrier phase of the ZigBee signal cannot be used to compare two rubidium clocks in a simple manner. Using a technique to cancel the clock error of transmitters, we demonstrated picosecond-level precision measurement of the time variation of clocks between two remote systems. This synchronization technique at picosecond-level precision opens the door to low-cost wireless positioning at millimeter accuracy.

This paper proposes a platform for electromagnetic interference on Ethernet communication devices due to conducted noise from power conversion circuits, focusing on the electromagnetic near-field coupling between the DC bus and the communication line. The waveforms measured on the platform during switching transients reveal the mechanism of communication failure. The Ethernet performance evaluation by a network protocol analyzer shows that the converter switching frequency impacts the communication error rate.

The propagation analysis of an automotive radar using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method uses tens of billions of analysis cells, and the simulation time is several days to several weeks. This study developed a method of accelerating the FDTD simulation for automotive radar analysis using a cluster-type supercomputer with multiple GPUs. An analysis region was divided into blocks, which were allocated to GPUs. The start time of the operation of each GPU was controlled according to radio wave propagation from a radiation antenna. The proposed method reduced the total simulation time by approximately 34% compared to a conventional method.

This letter proposes to use an ultra-wideband (UWB) radar for drone detection and experimentally investigates feasibility of the proposal. First, the radar cross section (RCS) of a typical quadrotor drone is clarified. Next, radar range profiles of a flying drone are discussed. As a result, we have confirmed that an UWB radar with high range resolution can detect a drone and observed a unique feature of the echoes reflected from the drone’s rotor blades. The feature will enable us to distinguish a drone from other flying objects.

Recently, the cyber-physical-system (CPS) has attracted great interest in the information and communications technology (ICT) research field for the virtual test of wireless communication systems. Since the performance of wireless communication significantly depends on the radio propagation channel characteristics, the development of accurate radio propagation simulation technology becomes essential for the purpose. This paper proposed the scenario-specific radio propagation simulation method from LiDAR point cloud data. By the continuous environment measurement by LiDAR, the positions of dynamic objects like pedestrians are tracked, as well as the site-specific propagation environment characteristics and their influences are taken into the simulation. For performance evaluation, the radio propagation measurement was conducted in the 28GHz band in an indoor office. The result showed a significant improvement in the RMSE of received power prediction. The proposed method will be utilized for the radio channel emulation in the CPS.

In 5G vehicular communications, beamforming technologies for vehicles, which compensate for large propagation losses at high carrier frequencies, are being considered. However, because the deflected beamforming loss degrades the communication quality, an accurate beam tracking system that follows the movement of the vehicle is required. In conventional schemes using a periodic codebook, the main lobe often deviates from the direction of the base station owing to fast movement. Therefore, in this study, a scheme for adaptively generating beam candidates using beam selection logs and the steering angle of the vehicle is proposed. Numerical results show that the scheme has high accuracy.

In this paper, the effect of raindrops on an on-glass antenna is evaluated to appropriately design a C-band automotive antenna. A three-layer composite glass is used for the automotive window glass panel. The electromagnetic field analysis of a dipole on-glass antenna placed in the center of a 300 mm × 300 mm flat composite glass was performed. As a result, it was found that raindrop situation had no significant effect on the reflection characteristics of the antenna. However, the reflection coefficient of the antenna worsens when the raindrops were connected to each other and streaked in a direction parallel to the antenna.

In this letter, we propose and evaluate a new area-based primary protection method for dynamic spectrum access, in which a secondary system uses a frequency band assigned to a primary system while it keeps an aggregate interference below an acceptable level of the primary system. We consider that a location information of a primary system’s reception station (PRS) whose antenna boresight faces towards a moving primary transmission station is ambiguous. To accurately calculate the aggregate interferences from the secondary system to the PRS in such a situation, the proposed method predicts a range of the PRS’s antenna rotation. Our simulation results show that the proposed method can increase availability of the secondary system significantly in a practical urban scenario.

In this letter, we propose a new incumbent protection method that considers three-dimensional (3D) aspects of 5G beamforming characteristics in dynamic spectrum access (DSA). We show some computer simulation results in which fixed wireless access (FWA)-based primary system (PS) and 5G-based secondary system (SS) were assumed to be deployed in a 26 GHz band. The results show that the proposed method can increase allowable transmission power of the SS by considering the 3D beamforming aspects, and that PS and SS height deployment information can additionally bring benefits to the proposed method in terms of the allowable transmission power in DSA.

The reflections and diffractions of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals from buildings may produce large measurement errors. Detecting non-line-of-sight signals using 3D maps is a means to detect and exclude satellites with large measurement errors. However, the true position is typically needed for using 3D maps. In this study, we verify the assumption that an approximate user position can be used when using 3D maps. We found that the correct fixed position of real-time kinematic GNSS (RTK-GNSS) could be achieved when approximate positions for RTK-GNSS assisted by 3D maps were within 5-15m from the true position.

This paper proposes a route optimization scheme for three-dimensional wireless mesh networks implemented by using formation flying of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones. Inter-drone communication above the ground can achieve free space propagation as obstacles are eliminated. However, transmission efficiency can be degraded due to sneak path interference inside the drone [1].In this paper, based on formation flight related work [2] suitable for drone communications, we theoretically analyze this interference by directional beams and propose an optimal route selection scheme with high transmission rate.

This paper proposes a tag identification protocol built upon Boolean compressed sensing (CS) for radio frequency identification (RFID) systems. Unlike the conventional CS-based tag identification (CS-ID) protocol, the proposed protocol can cope with flat fading channels without explicit channel estimation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme requires less amount of bits for successful identification than dynamic framed slotted ALOHA (DFSA) protocol, and that it even outperforms the conventional CS-ID protocol with perfect channel information.

Focusing on the TLP (transmission line pulse) method used for ESD (electrostatic discharge) saturation measurement described in IEC 62228-5 Annex E, we investigated the validity of its measurement conditions. Since there is no provision for the cable length between a TLP test system and a device under test, we investigated the influence of the cable length on the ESD saturation measurement. The result shows that different voltage and current waveforms in the measurement time window, i.e., different I/V characteristics, can be obtained due to the cable propagation delay. This paper proposes a method to correct the influence of the cable length by using the rising edge of the reflected wave observed at the TLP test system as a trigger for the measurement time window.

In a post-disaster area, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are considered one of the most effective ways to provide emergency wireless communication services. In this letter, we investigate the UAV-based emergency wireless communication network for a post-disaster area. Our optimization problem aims to optimize the UAV 3D flight trajectory to maximize the number of visited ground users during the flight round. Then, a dual-cost-aware multi-armed bandit algorithm is adopted to tackle this problem under the limited available energy for both the UAV and ground users. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm could solve the optimization problem and maximize the achievable throughput under these constraints.

In recent years, there has been a spurt of activities to explore the terahertz (THz) band comprising frequencies above 100 GHz to support high data rates and low latency applications. In this light, the current study presents an overview of a novel in-house channel sounder operating at 300 GHz followed by elaboration of a high-resolution double-directional channel measurement performed in an office environment. The letter validates the sounder, wherein the measurement accuracy is assessed by comparing the results from the campaign and ray-tracing (RT) simulation. The measurement system is expected to contribute to the advancement of THz communications research.

This paper presents development of passive channel sounder using software defined radio based receivers and commercial transmitter operating in cellular network. Accuracy of developed channel sounder is verified by over-the-air path gain measurement in outdoor open space. For evaluation, line-of-sight path gain is estimated using correlation method and is compared with theoretical path gain.
