In wide-area disaster situations, wireless mesh networks lose data communication reachability among arbitrary pairs of base stations due to the loss of routing information propagation and synchronization. This paper uses a Delaunay overlay approach to propose a distributed networking method in which detour overlay paths are incrementally added to a wireless mesh network in wide-area disaster situations. For this purpose, the following functions are added to each base station for wireless multi-hop communication: obtaining the spatial location, exchanging spatial location messages between base stations, transferring data based on spatial locations of base stations. The proposed method always constructs a Delaunay overlay network with detour paths on the condition that a set of wireless links provides a connected graph even if it does not initially provide reachability among arbitrary base stations in the connected graph. This is different from the previous method that assumes a connected graph and reachability. This paper therefore also shows a new convergence principle and implementation guidelines that do not interfere with the existing convergence principle. A simulation is then used to evaluate the detour length and table size of the proposed method. It shows that the proposed method has scalability. This scalability provides adaptable low-link quality and increases the number of nodes in wide-area disaster situations.

Device Comfort is a concept that uses an enhanced notion of trust to allow a personal (likely mobile) device to better reason about the state of interactions and actions between it, its owner, and the environment. This includes allowing a better understanding of how to manage information in fine-grained context as well as addressing the personal security of the user. To do this, it forms a unique relationship with the user, focusing on the device's judgment of user in context. This paper introduces and defines Device Comfort, including an examination of what makes up the comfort of a device in terms of trust and other considerations, and discusses the uses of such an approach. It also presents some ongoing developmental work in the concept, and an initial formal model of Device Comfort, its makeup and behaviour.

MANET for NEMO (MANEMO) is a new type of network that integrates multi-hop mobile wireless networks with global connectivity provided by Network Mobility (NEMO). Two factors limit the scalability of MANEMO: the volatility of topologically correct global addresses, and excessive traffic load caused by inefficient use of nested tunnels and the consequent redundant routing of packets. We propose NAT-MANEMO, which solves both problems by applying NAT for some mobile router addresses, bypassing tunnel nesting. This approach retains global addresses for mobile end nodes, preserving application transparency, and requires only minimal modification to existing specifications. Our ideas are evaluated using simulation and a proof of concept implementation. The simulation shows the additional signaling overhead for the route optimization introduced by our proposal is negligible compare to the bandwidth of an IEEE 802.11 link. The implementation confirms that route optimization reduces latency and improves throughput.

The recent progress in electronics suggests that an efficient processing of Japanese text at a reasonable cost will be feasible in the near future. The only unsettled link in the processing step will be the input aspect. Manually operated keyboard will remain the only viable input method for the foreseeable future and various keyboards together with different methods of computer aids are currently investigated or put into practice although only a few of these are to survive the test of time just as what has happened in many other technical areas. The present note is a part of an attempt to shorten such time of trial by critically examining what has happened in the history of Western typewriters and by identifying the blind spots and pitfalls their contemporaries failed to recognize. It is our hope that such information at least will arm us with an ability to spot potential trouble areas which we should not overlook during our course of research and development. We attempted to point out the essential features needed for the typewriter's acceptance what people did not know about typing method consequently what misjudgements people made on keyboard designs and what they suffer from even today. The recent progress in electronics suggests that an efficient processing of Japanese text at a reasonable cost will be feasible in the near future.
