A bibliographical survey was made concerning host-parasite relationships between birds and ticks from Japan. Twenty-five species of ticks (3 of Argasidae and 22 of Ixodidae) parasitic on birds have been recognized, while 68 species of birds (3 of Procellariiformes, 4 of Pelecaniformes, 3 of Falconiformes, 3 of Galliformes, 1 of Gruiformes, 5 of Charadriiformes, 1 of Columbiformes, 3 of Strigiformes, 1 of Piciformes, and 44 of Passeriformes) have been recorded as hosts of ticks in Japan.
