Fat contents of femur marrow by dry weight method and Riney's kidney fat index were assessed from 147 carcasses of sika deer dead in and around Nara park, Nara prefecture, central Japan. Femur marrow was categorized into five by color and texture, and these were arranged three by fat contents, such as malnutrition, ordinary and healthy. This classification is available for the management of Nara deer.
