This paper focuses on two types of sports clubs located in Fukuoka City and analyzed their service areas using GIS. The service area of each type of club was compared with that of three sports clubs located in Kagoshima City. The results of the analyses in this study are summarized as follows:1) About 90% of the members are included within circles of 4km and 6km defined around "Next to Residential area" and "Terminal" types of sports clubs respectively. 2) For the type of "Terminal" sports club, intermediate level of service area was expanded to the districts along subway and rail-way. 3) Market penetration ratio for "Next to Residential area" type had fallen more sharply than for "Terminal" type with the increase of distance from the club. 4) As the result of comparing with the clubs in Kagoshima city, these two sports clubs in Fukuoka city were classified as the concentrated type in terms of the inner structure of service areas.

In this paper we propose a new interpolation method using monotone functions to generate a digital elevation model (DEM) from contour lines of a topographic map. The proposed method has the following features. (1) It does not yield unnecessary vibrations that the other methods like the spline interpolation may often do. (2) It can generate more suitable surfaces of DEM. (3) It may choose and utilize the simple-averaging method or the Grimson's regularization method as a post-processing to make the surfaces more smooth. We carried out the experiments to verify the effectiveness of our method. From the results, we conclude that our method is more effective than the traditional methods like the spline interpolation, Akima's interpolation, etc..

This paper aims to improve the confidence limits of the results of overlay and to increase the efficiency of the line work. First, regression analysis shows that the area sensitivity measure has a quadratic relation with the fuzzy tolerance. Second, the frequency distributions of sliver polygons are compared with those of the other polygons on compactness, perimeter and area. Compactness characterizes sliver polygons more distinctly than perimeter or area. Third, discriminant analysis and logistic regression analysis correctly classifies 93 and 94 percent of polygons into sliver polygons and the others respectively.

Natural disaster might cause traffic congestion, changing traffic network. In this paper, we propose the way of developing the road condition analysis, animated traffic simulations of GIS and apply to the traffic situation under the Tokai downpour by using travel survey and tachometer of the drivers who had been driving under the disaster, from 9.11 to 9.12, 2000. As a result, it was revealed that many drivers who had driven at that time had involved chronic traffic jam and it took many hours to reach to destination.
