Nectonema, the only horsehair worm (Nematomorpha) genus found in marine environments, was previously known to be parasitic only in decapod crustaceans. We report Nectonema sp. as the first record of a marine nematomorph parasitic in isopod crustaceans. This is also the third record of marine nematomorphs from the North Pacific. Six infected isopods (Natatolana japonensis) collected from 1425 m of depth in the Sea of Japan each contained one to seven (mean 2.33) nematomorphs in the body cavity in the pereon. There was no correlation between the host body length and number of parasites. For Nectonema sp., we describe and illustrate morphological features of the parasitic juvenile stage and present nucleotide sequences for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI or cox1; 451 nt), 18S rRNA gene (1777 nt), and region spanning the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) and the 28S rRNA gene including the 5.8S rRNA gene and ITS2 (1218 nt in total). In an 18S maximum-likelihood tree that included 24 nematomorph species, Nectonema sp. grouped with N. agile from the northwestern Atlantic; the 18S gene from these two taxa was divergent by 11.8% K2P distance, suggesting that they are different species. Nectonema species may have a broader range of host groups than previously suspected, but may have been previously misidentified as nematode parasites.

UNO is one of the world-wide well-known and popular card games. We investigate UNO from the viewpoint of combinatorial algorithmic game theory by giving some simple and concise mathematical models for it. They includecooperative and uncooperative versions of UNO, for example. As a result of analyzing their computational complexities, we prove that even a single-player version of UNO is NP-complete, while it becomes in P in some restricted cases. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether individuals with Asperger’s disorder exhibit difficulty in switching attention from a local level to a global level. Eleven participants with Asperger’s disorder and 11 age- and gendermatched healthy controls performed a level-repetition switching task using Navontype hierarchical stimuli. In both groups, level-repetition was beneficial at both levels. Furthermore, individuals with Asperger’s disorder exhibited difficulty in switching attention from a local level to a global level compared to control individuals. These findings suggested that there is a problem with the inhibitory mechanism that influences the output of enhanced local visual processing in Asperger’s disorder.

The order Tanaidacea is a group of benthic crustaceans, most of which are small, up to a few millimeters long. Tanaidaceans are distributed worldwide, with more than 1,200 described species. Following the first taxonomic paper on a Japanese tanaidacean in 1936, many researchers have studied their taxonomy, morphology, reproductive biology, or ecology in the waters around Japan. This chapter presents a brief introduction to tanaidaceans and then reviews what is known of their systematics (taxonomy and phylogeny), biology (including feeding habits, phenology, morphology, reproductive modes, parasites, predators), and ecology in Japan. The chapter ends with a summary and prospects for future research. The general conclusion is that tanaidaceans have been under-studied, both globally and within Japan; the 104 nominal species reported from around Japan and the 1,200 species reported globally likely represent a fraction of the actual diversity. The phylogeny of tanaidaceans is largely unresolved at all taxonomic levels. Recent, significant new discoveries dealing with herbivory, selfing, skin-digging activity in holothuroid hosts, possible sound production, and tube building suggest that much remains to be learned about their general biology.

In this paper, we introduce a Web browsing behavior recording system for research. Web browsing behavior data can help us to providesophisticated services for human activities, because the data must indicate characteristics ofWeb users.We discuss the necessity of the data with potential benefits, and develop a system for collecting the data as an add-on for Firefox. We also report some results of preliminary experiments to test its usefulness in analyses on human activities in this paper.

On 25 April 2015, a large earthquake of Mw 7.8 occurred along the Main Himalayan Thrust fault in central Nepal. It was caused by a collision of the Indian Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate. The epicenter was near the Gorkha region, 80 km northwest of Kathmandu, and the rupture propagated toward east from the epicentral region passing through the sediment-filled Kathmandu Valley. This event resulted in over 8000 fatalities, mostly in Kathmandu and the adjacent districts. We succeeded in observing strong ground motions at our four observation sites (one rock site and three sedimentary sites) in the Kathmandu Valley during this devastating earthquake. While the observed peak ground acceleration values were smaller than the predicted ones that were derived from the use of a ground motion prediction equation, the observed peak ground velocity values were slightly larger than the predicted ones. The ground velocities observed at the rock site (KTP) showed a simple velocity pulse, resulting in monotonic-step displacements associated with the permanent tectonic offset. The vertical ground velocities observed at the sedimentary sites had the same pulse motions that were observed at the rock site. In contrast, the horizontal ground velocities as well as accelerations observed at three sedimentary sites showed long duration with conspicuous long-period oscillations, due to the valley response. The horizontal valley response was characterized by large amplification (about 10) and prolonged oscillations. However, the predominant period and envelope shape of their oscillations differed from site to site, indicating a complicated basin structure. Finally, on the basis of the velocity response spectra, we show that the horizontal long-period oscillations on the sedimentary sites had enough destructive power to damage high-rise buildings with natural periods of 3 to 5 s.

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare the risk for cancers of A-bomb survivors in the ongoing life span study (LSS) with unexposed groups consisting of the entire populations of Hiroshima prefecture and neighboring Okayama prefecture. Methods The subjects consisted of the Hiroshima group reported in LSS report 12 (LSS-H group) and a control group (the entire populations of Hiroshima and Okayama-HPCG and OPCG, respectively). We estimated the expected number of deaths due to all causes and to cancers of various causes among the exposed survivors of the Hiroshima bombing in the LSS report 12 who died in the follow-up interval at ages similar to those of people in Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures who were aged 0-34 years at the time of the bombing in 1945. We compared the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) of the LSS-H group to that of the HPCG and OPCG (SMR-H and SMRO, respectively). Results Even at low and very low dose categories, the SMR-H and SMR-O were significantly high for all deaths, all cancers, solid cancers, and liver cancers in male subjects, and for uterus and liver cancers in female subjects, respectively. The results show that, if the dose estimations of the dosimetry system 1986 (DS86) are correct, there are significantly increased risks of cancer among even survivors exposed to the very low dose level. Conclusions The dose assumptions of DS86 have been criticized for underestimating doses in areas distant from the hypocenter. The contribution of residual radiation, ignored in LSS, and that of neutrons, underestimated by DS86, is suggested to be fairly high.

Fish, echium, linseed, and soybean oil triacyglycerols (TAGs) were oxidized at 50 or 60 A degrees C to determine the effect of the polyunsaturated fatty acid composition on the volatile product formation. The analysis of the oxygen consumption and total volatile formation demonstrated that the soybean oil TAG had the highest oxidative stability followed by linseed, echium, and fish oil TAGs. Our results were in agreement with the expected average number of bis-allylic positions of each TAG. Higher quantities of acrolein (2-propenal) and propanal were detected using the static headspace gas chromatography method at the early stages of oxidation of echium and fish oil TAGs; however, a considerable amount of propanal and only a small amount of acrolein were found in the oxidized linseed oil TAG. The peak area ratios of acrolein to propanal were 0.115, 0.569, and 2.554 after the 8-h oxidation of linseed, echium, and fish oil TAG, respectively, suggesting the preferential formation of acrolein, especially during the fish oil TAG oxidation. The acrolein quickly increased during the first stage of oxidation, but thereafter it either did not change or slightly decreased during the fish oil oxidation. Because fish oil induces flavor deterioration from the very early stage of the oxidation, the acrolein formation observed in the present study may be important for fish oil deterioration.

We describe a new tanaidid species, Zeuxo molybi sp. n., from Kominato, Chiba, Japan. Zeuxo molybi closely resembles the Japanese congener Zeuxo ezoensis, but differs in having (1) the pereopod-1 carpus without dorsodistal spiniform setae; (2) two or three ventrodistal simple setae on the pereopod-1 propodus in females, and three or four in males; and (3) the pereopod-6 propodus with four or five flattened denticulate setae. The two species also differ in the pattern of dorsal pigmentation on the carapace. Kimura 2-parameter distances between the two species were 15.6-16.9% for the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene and 2.8% for the 18S rRNA gene; the former value is much greater than intraspecific distances previously reported for Z. ezoensis (0-1.5%), confirming our conclusion from morphology that Z. molybi and Z. ezoensis are not conspecific. In a COI-based maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree, the Japanese taxa Z. molybi, Z. ezoensis, and Z. cf. normani did not form a clade.

Swarm robotics requires a practical scheme to maintain operator supervision for the acceptability of systems' autonomy by humans. For this purpose, this paper proposes a distributed algorithm for continuous connectivity between robots and a base station to maintain the controllability and transparency of the swarm. This algorithm forms network topology among the swarm members and deploys repeaters to maintain the connection to the base station by a role switching scheme. Preliminary simulations have shown that the revised acute angle test reduced the cost of the network formation with the Gabriel graph topology. Through the simulated patrol missions, the proposed algorithm successfully maintained the continuous connectivity between the base station and the swarm members without significant inequality in the computational cost among swarm members. Furthermore, as the number of robots increases, the computational cost per robot does not increase significantly. These results indicate the distributed nature and scalability of the proposed algorithms.

To address the question of secure and efficient management of the access credentials so that a user can store and retrieve them using a 'short and easy-to-remember' password in a connected world、 X. Boyen proposed a user-centric model in ASIACCS'09、 named Hidden Credential Retrieval (HCR). The protocol was shown secure under random-oracle model. However, the construction does not explicitly prevent an HCR server from colluding with the third party service provider (i.e., an online bank), which can result into retrieving the hidden credential without the user's participation. In this paper, we show the HCR construction without the random-oracles with enhanced properties based on Okamoto's blind signature scheme proposed in TCC'06. For the "Insider attack" model, we provide the attacker (server) with more computational ability in trying to recover the plaintext message from the ciphertext that has been stored in the server by the user, being completely offline. Moreover, we include an explicit notion of identity ID that is useful in practice, so that the server knows whose encrypted credential is to be used in the protocol.The 11th International Workshop on Information Security Applications. Personal automobility is critical for accessing economic and social opportunities in the auto-oriented built environment of the United States. Despite declines over the past 40 years, household carpooling remains the most popular alternative mode to solo-driving regardless of demographic group. While carpooling provides a degree of automobility, carpool-dependent passengers often suffer from practical and other disadvantages. This paper explores gender gaps and ethnicity in personal automobility levels, particularly among Hispanics. The analysis explicitly considers drivers' access to household vehicles and non-drivers' access to household carpooling. The research finds that Hispanic females, especially immigrants, are low in automobility, both in the probability of being a driver and in access to household vehicles. The large gender gap is specific to Hispanics, and differs from gaps found for non-Hispanic Whites or Blacks. The gender gap decreases, but persists, as immigrant Hispanics stay longer in the U.S., gain or maintain employment, or become college-educated. Surprisingly, the gender gap in personal automobility level exists even among U.S. native Hispanics. Gender gaps in personal automobility among different ethnicity groups, particularly Hispanics, merit more study, especially as commercial car-sharing and ridesharing services become more common.

The results of a search for electroweakino pair production pp→χ~±1χ~02 in which the chargino (χ~±1) decays into a W boson and the lightest neutralino (χ~01), while the heavier neutralino (χ~02) decays into the Standard Model 125 GeV Higgs boson and a second χ~01 are presented. The signal selection requires a pair of b-tagged jets consistent with those from a Higgs boson decay, and either an electron or a muon from the W boson decay, together with missing transverse momentum from the corresponding neutrino and the stable neutralinos. The analysis is based on data corresponding to 139 fb−1 of s√=13 TeV pp collisions provided by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded by the ATLAS detector. No statistically significant evidence of an excess of events above the Standard Model expectation is found. Limits are set on the direct production of the electroweakinos in simplified models, assuming pure wino cross-sections. Masses of χ~±1/χ~02 up to 740 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for a massless χ~01.
