Total RNA extracted from human temporomandibular joint (TMJ) discs of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) were examined by RT-PCR. The expressions of decorin, biglycan and aggrecan mRNA in the disc were demonstrated. These results suggest that human TMJ discs of patients with TMD contain decorin and biglycan. The expression of aggrecan mRNA was confirmed in calcified disc tissue.
