筆者は、へき地山村に居住する独居高齢者の生活について、参与観察と電話により把握し、その"生活の術"について検討を行った。その結果、以下のことが確認出来た。なお、ここで言う"生活の術"とは、生活の方法や手段という意味で使用した。1)今回の対象において、精神的扶養は成人子である子供からの扶養をはじめ、対象者本人による積極的な友人の獲得、ペット、亡き夫や先祖、近くの神々への関心により扶養されていることが推察された。2)経済的扶養については、公的年金を主にしており、その他、親族が郵便という流通を活用、対象者本人も公的・私的に郵便配達人を活用していた。3) 身体的扶養については、対象者自身が日常の生活を維持できる能力を持ち合わせていた。しかし、天候の悪化時には公的な支えが必要であることが確認出来た。The authors came to grasp the life of elderly people living alone in remote mountain village by the participant observation, the telephone, and so on, and they examined it as "The art of the life". As for "The art of the life", it was used in the sense of the method and means of life. 1)As for the mental support, an applicable person herself actively got a friend, the support from her adult child, made a telephone call and kept herself a pet. She was also found to be interested in a deceased husband, ancestors and surrounding gods. 2)As for the economical support, she made a living mainly by a pension. And her relatives sent foods and goods by mail service. She also made extensive use of the mail service. 3) As for the physical support, she had the ability to maintain her own daily life. But, at the time when the weather was not favorable ,it was confirmed that the public support was necessary.
