England is the first nation in the world where modernization was achieved. In the process, a number of changes took place such as urbanization and the changes in thelife style among the people in the villages. These changes probably derived from productivity and individuality. In the middle age, person who had mental disorders were cared by families and they lived in the communities. As modernization progressed, they were isolated and excluted from the communities because such persons were considered as being non productive, unreasonable and they disturbed other members of the community. This paper explored historical records to find out how people with mental disorder were treated during the modernization in England.
