This research is an attempt to identify those elements that should constitute the design activity so far and explain the way it was and it is now. The seven design elements are supposed to change over time, thus explaining the nature of material culture unique to three ages that are pre-modern, modern and the present day as post modern. Broad history such as this may be partly compensated by the usefulness of simple table like apparatus that is expected to help design students to navigate through rather chaotic situations of design thinking today.
