彼らの複数の断片を手掛かりにすることによって、本稿の目的である知の深化に関する過程を検証するとともに、ソクラテス的自己の発見を、すなわち思弁的自己への覚醒を、ヘラクレイトスの思想の中に見ることができることを論証する : It's said human beings has improved the content of his wisdom quantitatively and qualitatively, just like a man does in the process of his growth. The traces are especially evident in the field of science and technology. But those kinds of traces are to be confirmed even in the self-reflection toward our inner world. The purposes of this article are 1) to seek for the concrete sayings that testify the change of human wisdom, and 2) to settle its time in the history of Greek philosophy. The history of Greek philosophy tells us the Greeks didn't attain the concept of self which could hold back the mordern critical view until Socrates. In the thought of Socrates it's true that there is the clear methodology certificating the gotten wisdom by means of dialectic, and that there is possibility which searches the wisdom for all the human beings, but the same kind of speculation can be found in the thoughts of pre-Socratics. We are probably able to come across the process of struggle which aims at self-research in some extant fragments of theirs apart from the differences of vocabu-laries and contexts. It's natural our recognition should extend itself toward the outer world as the first step. In this point, our knowledge or wisdom comes to be suffered from the quantitative change. But as the second, the time surely comes when we go up the rivers of some knowledge toward their common origin. Xenophanes and Heraclitus individually developed the characteristic thoughts. We can see in the former the crisis of the relative point of view, in the latter the possibility of the deepening of the human wisdom. By checking their extant fragments, we can put forward the time when human beings become conscious of the concept of self from Socrates to Heraclitus.
