Onigiri is one of the traditional, most popular Japanese rice ball snacks.The author conducted a questionnaire research on onigiri targeting high school and university students nationwide in 2003.The total number of schools and universities that cooperated was13, the total answers returned were 1, 386, and the recovery rate was94.9%. The results are, 1.They called rice balls onigiri, omusubi and nigirimeshi. 2.The familiar forms of rice balls they ate were triangle, circled, and oval. 3.The top three of the fillings they thought common were umeboshi, salmon and konbu. 4.The most favored wrapping material was nori. 5.The top three of their favorite varieties were with salmon, umeboshi, and tuna with mayonnaise sauce.
