本稿では,MASP アソシエーションが提唱する 「概念データモデリング (CDM)」 を,C.S. パース (Charles Sanders Peirce) を創始者とするプラグラマティズム哲学の視点から分析し,CDM をブラグマティズム実践として再定義する.具体的には,1) CDM が採用している 「オブジェクト指向」 は,プラグマティズムの 「実在物」 の思想を背景に持つと考えるのが自然であり,2) オブジェクト指向を導入しつつ,動的モデルを通じて,データ状態が変化するオブジェクトに焦点を絞る CDM のアプローチは,中村善太郎の 「要 (かなめ) の 『もの』 『こと』」 を自動的に組み込んでいる.但し,パースの論文は 1870 年代に発表されたものである.その後も,クワイン,ローティなどの現代プラグマティズム哲学者によって研究は発展している.これらの理論的進展を CDM に準用することにより,CDM のあるべき姿を明確化できる.This paper analyzes theoretically the Conceptual Data Modeling (CDM) approach, proposed by the MASP association in Japan, from the philosophical view points of C.S.Peirce's Pragmatism. The analysis shows that CDM itself is equal to the investigation process of Peirce's Pragmatism. Also, the necessity of the object-oriented approach is described based on the "Real Thing" concept of Peirce's pragmatism. The object-oriented approach is an essential part of CDM to reveal a "To Be" model in the application domain. However, the major papers of the Peirce's pragmatism were published in 1878 and are not new. The some modern pragmatism philosophers, such as W. V. Quine, and R. Rorty, have already improved the Peirce's theory. Thus, this paper also shows that their theoretical improvements set up new aspects of the CDM approach.
