The main novels by Endo Shusaku's Christian themes are "White People", "Yellow People", "Sea and Poisons" "Wonderful Fool", "Silence", and then a compilation of religious views, that is "deep rivers". Endo was baptized in Japan and went to Lyon In France to study Christian writers. Studying abroad made him feel strongly that he was Japanese overseas. And that experience also led the way for novelists. It was from "silence" that he began to take up religiousness from the front, but I felt that there was some difference in the author's mental life before and after "silence". Endo had a tuberculosis operation several years before writing "Silence". I think that the experience of "Fumie" (Tools used for persecution of hidden Christians In Edo era) seen at the time of hospitalization was a kind of religious experience, and it was a turning point that would determine the direction of subsequent works. It seems like a mission to convey the image of Jesus that he reached.
