哲学における存在論研究では「語とは何か」という問いが議論されている。認知言語学的な観点からすると、その議論に見られる混乱はプロトタイプカテゴリー観を取ることで適切に整理することができる。そのうえで、哲学と言語学の知見を接続するには、語の典型をミームという存在者だと見なす説が有望である。ではミームはいかに発見されるだろうか。まず、人間は万物流転の世界を体制化している。語をはじめとする言語的ミームが立ち現れる過程は、その体制化の一環であるリンク発見ゲームとして定式化できる。そこでは同一性や実在論にまつわる素朴理論が採用されている。これを踏まえると、派生は客観的な変化ではなく「見え」としての変化である。This paper starts by showing that the confusion surrounding the philosophical discussion in recent years of the ontology of words can be sorted out by the prototype theory of categorization adopted in cognitive linguistics. It goes on to argue that the insights into words gained so far in philosophy and linguistics can be straightforwardly integrated into a theory that views a prototypical word as a meme. This leads to the question of how we identify memes as such. Living as we do in a world where everything is in flux, we have to create order in that world to make our experience coherent. Words as linguistic memes emerge as we participate in a game in which we form, drawing on naïve theories, links of similarity and association. Viewing words as memes allows us to think of morphological derivation as a process by which a link of partial identity is established between multiple word types, rather than as one producing an objective change.論文 Articles
