This paper makes clear differences between the fads in former times and the internetfads mediated by social media today. Then, it points out that various fads or collective effervescenceshave been triggers of big social changes, or rather the triggers of social formation. Finally, itdiscusses that in today's world, which can be called as "inter-media" society because multi-layeredmedia including social media are embedded, collective effervescences are easy to be caused.
