瀬戸内海のほぼ中央部に浮かぶ宇治島は、広島県福山市に属する周囲4.25km,面積0.52㎢の無人島である.宇治島では1983年(昭和58)と1984年(昭和59)の2回に亘り,広島大学考古学研究室によって発掘調査が行われたところ,島の北側に位置する「北の浜遺跡」からは,縄文時代から中世に及ぶ各時期の遺物が出土するとともに,古代海上交通に関する祭祀遺構が検出されるなど、貴重な成果が得られている.今回,新たな『福山市史 原始から現代まで』(2017年3月刊行)の編さん事業に伴い,遺跡の現状を把握することを目的として,宇治島北の浜遺跡の現地踏査を実施した.本稿では採集した遺物,及び遺跡の現状の報告,併せて今後の課題について記しておきたい.The Uji Island (or Ujishima as it is called in Japan) is located in the middle of the Setouchi Sea (also called Setonaikai). This island, 4.25 kilometers around with an area of 0.52 kilometers, belongs to Fukuyama city, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan.Hiroshima University Graduate School of Letters,Department of Archaeology excavated some parts of the island once in 1983 and once in 1984, from which they found some relics of dating from the Jomon Era to Medieval times. The findings include remnants of old buildings particularly related to archeological sea traffic. These are really valuable findings.A book, titled 'A History of Fukuyama City', was published in March 2017. In the wake of its publicatin this book, excavation work has been conducted in the remains of the Northern Beach of the island (Ujishima Kitanohama Iseki). This article reports on what has been obtained in the remains, its present state, and the tasks still left to be undertaken.

The lubricant property of sucrose esters of fatty acids (SEs) having different particle size and Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance (HLB) was evaluated with a model formulation in tableting. The binding tendency of the model formulation composed of isomalt powder was depressed by adding SEs in the formulation. Tablets containing SE showed faster disintegration time compared to those containing magnesium stearate or calcium stearate, while the tablets containing SEs indicated a high tensile strength. Milled SE (S-370F) exhibited better tablet properties than original SE (S-370). The SEs having different HLB showed different effects on the resultant tablet properties such as the magnitude of tensile strength, disintegration time, and spreading properties. The relatively hydrophilic SE was found to much improve the resultant disintegrating properties of tablet compared to magnesium stearate, calcium stearate and hydrophobic SEs. Consequently, SEs are able to use as lubricants on tablet formulation by appropriately controlling its particle size, content, and HLB.
