We dyed cellulose and nylon films with onionskin extraction, quercetin and rutin. Then we measured their absorption spectra and compared them. We also evaluated their ultraviolet protection effect on nylon films which were dyed well. It was found that the absorption spectra of quercetin and rutin solution had absorption maxima (λmax ) at about 370, 260 and 200nm. The absorption spectrum of onionskin extraction had λmax at about 300nm, as well as at about 370, 260 and 200nm. In addition, spectrum of onionskin extraction had weak absorption at more than 410nm. It was similar to the absorption spectra of dyed nylon films. Concerning the ultraviolet protection effects, nylon films dyed with quercetin showed UPF50+ when the amount of dye uptake was more than 0.05mol/kg. On the other hand, nylon films dyed with onionskin extraction showed UPF50+ when the estimated uptake assumed as quercetin was more than 0.015mol/kg. In conclusion, nylon films dyed with onionskin extraction showed higher ultraviolet protection effects (UPF values) than those dyed with quercetin.

In order to establish the bleaching process for cotton fabrics under the neutral condition, cotton fabrics were bleached by hydrogen peroxide with urea. It was revealed that hydrogen peroxide bleaching with urea showed the higher whiteness of bleached fabrics than that without urea at more than 70 degrees Celsius. Tensile strength did not decrease after bleaching. Some radicals were observed by ESR measurement when urea was added into hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution. The effects of urea on hydrogen peroxide bleaching seems to be caused by active oxygen ; hydroxyl radical, perhydroxyl radical and superoxide anion radical as well as perhydroxyl anion. The residual hydrogen peroxide concentrations in bleaching baths were measured. When urea is added to the bleaching baths, the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is accelerated even in the neutral bath.

3種の市販ブリーチ剤を用いて毛髪の脱色処理を行ったところ,酸化剤,アルカリ,過炭酸ナトリウムなどブリーチ剤の含有成分の違いにより脱色効果に大きな差があることがわかった.そこで, 主要な酸化剤成分である過酸化水素を用いて処理液のpHを変化させて漂白実験を行い,脱色効果と強伸度, 表面形状の変化に対するpHの影響を検討した.その結果,pHが9以上で大きくなるにつれて脱色効果は大きくなるが,一方で高いpHでは毛髪の強度低下と表面の損傷が起こることがわかった.また,過炭酸ナトリウムは過酸化水素にアルカリを加えて行った結果よりすぐれた脱色効果を示し,毛髪の損傷も幾分抑えられることが示唆された.

In order to clarify anti-deposition effects of mukuroji pericarps, deposition of carbon black onto cotton and polyester fabrics has been studied in aqueous solutions of mukuroji pericarps. The rates of deposition were evaluated from the reflectivity of stained fabrics. It was revealed that the rate of deposition of carbon black onto the fabrics in an aqueous solution of mukuroji pericarps was lower than that in an aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate as well as in polyvinyl alcohol, which is a known anti-redeposition agent. In addition, it was revealed that theses effects were not introduced by the saponin component alone, but by the whole mukuroji pericarp which contains the non-saponin component.
