The purpose of this study is to clarify the taste of painter's residence in the suburbs in Kyoto at the late Edo period.<br>There were about ninety painters, who lived in the suburbs by the directory published in Kyoto at the late Edo period.<br>This study researched on the transition of address, activities of execution, etc., about the painters who proved at that time, Ikeno Taiga, Hara Zaityu, Ganku, Tanaka Totugen, Nakabayashi Tikudo, and Hine Taizan.<br>The painter's residence in the suburbs was clarified. In short, it had the elements:<br>(1) Lead a full work<br>(2) Retirement's place<br>(3) Health resort

The purpose of this paper is to realize the tendency to the distribution of painters' address by schools, and to deliberate whether to involve between the distribution of painters' address and patrons. The results are as follows: (1)Sizyo-school gathered on Sizyo-dori. (2)Maruyama-school gathered on Higasinakasuzi-dori after Koka. (3)Kisi-school gathered around Teramatihigasinodoin and on Itizyo-dori and Nakatatiuri-dori. (4)Hara-school gathered on Itizyo-dori and Nakatatiuridori. (5)Motiduki-school gathered a narrow area. (6)Kano-school showed a same tendency as Motiduki school after Tenpo. (7)Tosa-school gathered on Teramatimarutamati. (8)Turusawa-school divided into Turusawa, Yamamoto, and Isida. (9)The painter of letters gathered on outskirts.

The purpose of this study is to solve the tendency of the painters' address in the early modern period in Kyoto. The results are as follows: (1) Painters lived particular streets from Tenmei period. intensive streets were Nizyo-dori, Sizyo-dori, Sanzyo-dori, and Marutamati-dori from Bunka period downward. (2) They lived particular areas from Bunsei period. (3) The number of painters lived south of Sizyo-dori increased from Koka period. (4) The number of painters lived south of Imperial palace increased from Koka period. (5) Many painter, belong to Bunzingaka, Sizyo school, and Kisi school, lived surround Gion, Syogoin village, Hyakumanben, Okazaki village, and Fusimi.
