The electormyographic study of right latissimus dorsi muscle was performed in 19 men (10 healthy and 9 paraplegic) with the surface electrodes to clarify the functional difference of the 6 parts of the muscle.   The 26 kinds of movements were employed for the experiments as followed; extension, adduction and internal rotation of the shoulder joint, lateral tilting of the pelvis, push up exercise and transfer (wheelchair-bed), etc….   The location of the electrodes on each part of the muscle was determined with the anatomical remarks.   The electromyographic signals were processed through the rectifying and smoothing net work for the quantitative study and compared after standerization.   It was found that two parts, namely upper and lower part of latissimus dorsi muscle have apparent functional difference each other; the former showed marked activities in hyper extension, the latter in lateral tilting of the pelvis; and it was also found that the characteristics of activities were similar on the healthy and the paraplegic subjects.
