Beginner level errors are sometimes seen in texts written by intermediate andadvanced students. Even if such errors are pointed out and corrected by teachers, thesame errors occur in subsequent assignments. However, teachers cannot be availableall the time to correct such errors, so students need to acquire the skill to find andcorrect errors in their own texts. Therefore, the present study investigates theparticularities of errors and the difficult points of the correction process for thepurpose of improving the writing skills of learners. The study had some interesting results. 1. It is not easy for intermediate and advanced learners to correct errors in beginner level salutation experessions. 2. In some cases, the correction itself was not difficult, but students had difficulty inidentifying the error. 3. Ommission errors are difficult to identify even if they are underlined. 4. Mix-ups of related expressions, the influence of topics, tense and sentence structure, and other types of errors not related to salutations were also among the items that make error identification and correction difficult.

This study deals with instances of grammatical deviation of the ~zu ni wa irarenai construction as found on the lnternet, and classifies them by type. Further, the study finds that there are two types of grammatical deviation, one of them generated by confusion with the meaning of the ~zu ni wa okanai construction, and one bymisinterpreting the construction as having the opposite meaning. The study also considers possible causes for this deviation. In addition, a questionnaire survey of Japanese university students in their teens and twenties was performed, which found 1) a high degree of acceptance of the deviant examples of the ~zu ni wa irarenai construction and 2) a low degree of awareness of the ~zu ni wa okanai construction.

This report concerns the results and possible future activities regarding the singing contest organized as part of the lnternational Week held by Mie University. The Singing Contest in Foreign Languages is an event where foreign students and Japanese students vie with each other singing in a language other than their native language.By setting the condition that all participants must sing in a language other than their own, this contest ensured that Japanese students and foreign students participated on an equal footing.The participants' countries of origin were Japan (4), China (3), Korea (2), Vietnam (2), Malaysia (1), Thailand (1), and the languages of the songs were Japanese(9), English (2), Italian(1), Galician (1). All foreign students sang in Japanese.Japanese students and foreign students participated in the contest even from thepreparation stages, performing almost all activities other than the judging of thecontest, such as the preparation of the sound systems and others. Judging from the questionnaires received from the participants, there are aspects that could be improved for the future, but the event was an overall success.
