Porphyrin oligomers have received great attention in various fields, because they are promising candidates for organic conductive materials, near IR dyes, molecular wires and so on. Many synthetic approaches to covalently linked porphyrins are reported for such purposes. We have succeeded in the new preparation of a bisporphyrin linked with a bicyclo[2.2.2]octadiene skelton. Our strategy provides an easy access not only to the gable porphyrin bearing spatially fixed porphyrin chromophores but also to a fused porphyrin dimer having a highly p-extended chromophore by simple pyrolysis. In this session, we will present the preparation and the property of gable diporphyrins, chromophores of which are connected with bis(ethano)anthracene and ethanonaphthalene moieties, and their conversion to acene-fused diporphyrins.
