In recent years, the small island nick named as 'Gunkanjima' (formal name "Hashima") located in the southwest of the Nagasaki harbor attracted a lot of attention. Historically Gunkanjima, an island rich of coalmine supported modernization of Japan by supplying invaluable energy. However, abrupt shift in energy use during the 1970s forced the closure of the mines in this island on January 15, 1974. Eventually, since almost thirty years this island became an uninhabited island. But still there are many cultural heritages valuable from scientific standpoint left in the island, including the first Reinforced Concrete Apartment Building in Japan. In this paper, we have summarized the results of the interview with the former residents of this island and also the field survey in "Gunkanjima". This investigative study indicated that, the community structures followed by the residents of this island in those days, can be an ideal model to solve the present social problems arising in Japan. The results of the study also revealed the immense importance of Gunkanjima to be preserved as an industrial heritage, symbolizing the industrial growth of Japan. Hence got sufficient potential to be utilized as a scientific research center for the future generation and which in turn would promote revitalization of the surrounding areas.

日本電信電話公社の通信ケーブル施設を使って長基線の地電位試験観測を行った。現在、日本では陸上での地電位観測で数km以上の基線で観測されているものは、他にはない。関東北部の笠間、下館および小山の各電話中継所のアースおよびその間の通信ケーブルを用いて、笠間—下館間 (26.8km) および小山—下館間 (15.7km) の地電位変化を観測した。1Hz等の短周期ノイズが大きいため、カットオフ周期が6分のローパスフイルターを通したところ笠間—下館間では非常によい記録が得られた。ここでの地磁気変化による誘導電位変化は、柿岡地磁気観測所の地電位EW成分と類似している。小山—下館間では、直流電車からと思われる電気的ノイズが非常に大きく、良い記録は得られなかった。しかし、そこでは地電位変化が、笠間—下館間に比較して非常に小さいことも確かである。このような地電位変化の相違は、主にこの付近の堆積層の厚さに関係していると考えられる。今回の試験観測の結果、電々公社のケーブル施設を使って、長基線地電位変化を観測できることがわかった。このような観測は、地下構造の解析や地下電気抵抗の時間的変化の検出に利用できると考えられる。

In this paper, we aim to manipulate user's perceived shape of a curved surface by using pseudo-haptics in projection-based mixed reality. We investigate how we can change the shape which a user feels when touching a curved surface with an index finger, by projecting his/her shifted hand image onto the user's own hand. We performed experiments to investigate the effects of pseudo-haptics and evaluated their influences. The results showed that the shape which the participants perceived was deformed from the actual shape they touched. The results prove the possibility for manipulating user's perceived shape of a curved surface by using pseudo-haptics in projection-based mixed reality.
