A method of processing geometrical patterns is proposed, which facilitates the develop-ment of automatic manufacturing system. The patterns described in a conventional form such as drawings of machine parts, are transformed into some process-oriented form, where the pattern is segmented into elements, codes of which carry all necessary information together with the connecting relationship among these elements. This method is applied to construct a fully automatic programming system for NC-lathe, where the necessary input data is only the shape of part and blank, and every necessary information is available as output of the system. This is called STORK 2 SYSTEM. Some practical applications of this system to turning processes proved its remarkable advantages such as the simplest input form, small core size and short computing time.
