The waste chicken feathers were treated with the enzymes (dissociating disulfide bonds) produced by thermophilic Meiothermus ruber H328, and then the treated feathers were milled and subjected to the hot-press compression molding. It was found that the recrystallization of the feather keratin was interfered with to some extent due to the lack of S-S bonds. On the other hand, the slight reinforcement of the feather resin with the wood fibers was effective to enhance the tensile behavior and the thermal stability of the feather resin.

Microporous carbons were produced by carbonizing and activating bamboo (phyllostachys heterocycla). Carbon dioxide was used as an activating agent. Also the activated carbons were produced using bamboo carbons with less potassium fractions. The potassium fractions are mainly distributing in the middle lamella that connects the adjacent cell walls of bamboo. The micropore distribution became sharper for the carbon produced using bamboo carbon with smaller potassium fractions and controlling the yield of activated carbon no less than 70%. It seems that potassium fractions in the middle lamella will accelerate the activation reaction, and then the micropore distribution tends to be broader when the activation reaction reaches the middle lamella.

The influence of ferrous contaminations or keratin treatments on the degradation of bast fibers induced by the irradiation with ultraviolet rays was investigated. The ferrous contaminations accelerated the degradation. The treatments with keratin were effective for suppression of the degradation, and enhanced the tensile strengths of bast fibers.

Our research objective is localization and mapping for rescue crawler robot in unknown environment. The problem is well known as SLAM problem. For solving the problem, the robot position and environment shape are measured by odometry and LRF respectively. Odometry's error is corrected by matching these shape data. Map is constructed from these shapes and the modified robot position. However, odometry can not be used for measurement of our crawler robot's position because the crawler has crawlers and wheels as locomotion. In this paper, the authors present our approach for measurement of its position and construction of the map. Concretely, the authors measure its position by matching 2D scan data measured at different points. Moreover, we correct the scan's distortion caused by robot movement.
